Oud oil is extracted from the Aquilaria trees, which are native to Southeast Asia, including Cambodia. The process begins when the tree becomes infected by a particular type of fungus, leading the tree to produce a dark, aromatic resin as a defense mechanism. This resin is then distilled to produce oud oil.
